condemns the Moroccan military maneuvers in the south of Western Sahara

Bir Lahlou, 02/01/2010 (SPS) The Office of National Secretariat (NLS) of the Polisario Front has condemned the military maneuvers of the Moroccan forces of occupation in the south of Western Sahara, calling it a provocation and violation of the requirements the cease-fire, implemented between the Frente Polisario and Moroccan forces under the UN auspices, pending the referendum on self-determination promised by the international community for over 18 years.

Meeting Saturday under the chairmanship of the Head of State, Mr Mohamed Abdelaziz, the Office of the SN indicated that Moroccan forces engaged in military maneuvers land and air strikes south of the occupied part of Western Sahara, and more improvements of the Moroccan units, contrary to the requirements of the cease-fire signed between the two belligerents, according to a statement received SPS.

In this regard, the Office of the SN has called for an end to military provocations on the part of Morocco in the occupied territory of Western Sahara and the strengthening of its military units, saying that "they represent a real threat to peace and security in the region. "

The Office of SN has launched an urgent appeal toward the United Nations to assume its responsibilities to put an end to this "dangerous escalation" which does not contribute to the creation of necessary conditions for the resumption of direct negotiations between the parties to the conflict, the Polisario Front and Morocco to find a solution enabling the Saharawi people exercise their inalienable right to self-determination and independence.

Furthermore, the Office of SN also recalled that Morocco continues its campaign of repression, arrests and intimidation against the Sahrawi citizens, including the Sahrawi human rights in the occupied territories of Western Sahara, south of Morocco and in Moroccan universities.

The Office of SN has called for urgent international intervention to stop the brutal repression and increased imposed by Morocco against the Sahrawi citizens, the lifting of the state siege imposed on human rights activists, including the home of Aminatou Haidar, the group of seven, Yahya Mohamed Hafez IAAZZA and release of all Saharawi political prisoners who are in Moroccan prisons.
