year 2010 marks the 125th anniversary of the Battle of Batoche in Saskatchewan result in the hanging of Louis Riel Métis. This unique case for recognition of a historic Métis community before the Royal Proclamation of 1763 set a precedent to the subsequent entrenchment of aboriginal rights of Métis people in Canada in 1982.
In July 2010, Metis throughout Quebec, Atlantic Provinces, as well as western Canada, will visit the site of the Battle of the Restigouche River to commemorate the event and to demand that government officials renew this gratitude to the descendants of this community, many of which are still present in the region.
